Abandoned in the woods by their inept father and selfish stepmother, the lost children are thrilled to find the hidden confection. But the witch tricked them (Don’t they always?), and locked up Hansel to fatten him up for her dinner. Clever Gretel knew she might be the appetizer, so outwitted the witch into checking the oven. A good shove and she was toast — oh yeah!
